A Grief Workbook for Children & Teens
Helping Young Hearts Understand, Express, and Carry Their Grief
We don't tell children and teens how grief should feel.
We give them the space and the tools to show us how it feels to them.
Through coloring, drawing, writing, memories, questions, and age-appropriate activities, children, pre-teens, and teens have different ways to express what is already there. Some pages may start a conversation. Others may remain private.
Both are okay.
Grief can show up in many ways, and children do not always have the words to explain what they are experiencing. Grief Spoken Here gives them ways to explore feelings, memories, questions, anger, guilt, and the things that can be difficult to say out loud.
It also includes pages created specifically for teens, along with free-coloring pages that give their minds and hands somewhere else to go when they need it.
The workbook can be used independently or alongside a parent, caregiver, teacher, counselor, or grief support group.
And sometimes, a page can help the adults who love them understand something a child hasn't been able to put into words.
Children and teens can use the workbook in the way that feels most comfortable to them. Some may want to color or write quietly on their own. Others may choose to share a page with a parent, grandparent, caregiver, counselor, teacher, or trusted adult. Both are okay.
The large 8" × 10" spiral-bound format lays flat for easy coloring, writing, and drawing. It can be used at home or alongside the adults who support grieving children and teens.
Grief Spoken Here isn't about telling a child what grief should look like or how they should feel.
It's about giving them the space and the tools to show us.
