Memory Box

A Memory Box is a special place to keep the small things that help us remember.

It does not have to be fancy.

A shoe box.

A wooden box.

A decorative tin.

Or a box that looks like a book.

What matters is not the container.

What matters is the love inside.

## What Can You Put Inside?

Anything that reminds you of the person you miss.

You might include:

• Photographs
• Letters or cards
• Favorite recipes
• Jewelry or small keepsakes
• Ticket stubs from special events
• Drawings from children
• Holiday ornaments
• Notes about favorite memories
• A small item that simply makes you think of them

There are no rules.

Your Memory Box should tell the story of your love.

When Should You Open It?

Whenever you need to.

Some people open their Memory Box on birthdays.

Some open it during the holidays.

Some keep it close for difficult days.

And some leave it tucked away until they are ready.

There is no right or wrong way.

A Memory Box Can Grow

As time passes, you may add new memories.

A funny story someone tells.

A photograph discovered years later.

A letter written to your loved one.

Grief changes.

Love grows.

And your Memory Box can grow with you.

More Than an Art Project

At my grief retreat, I helped people create Memory Boxes using wooden boxes shaped like books with hidden sliding compartments.

No two boxes were alike.

Because no two love stories are alike.

Some boxes were beautifully decorated.

Some were simple.

Some were filled with photographs and keepsakes.

Others held only a few treasured items.

Do not worry about making it perfect.

This is more than an art project.

It is a place to hold love.

And sometimes, on the hard days, it can remind you that although someone is gone from your sight, they are never gone from your story.
